Professionals
As more and more families are impacted by a child who uses harmful or aggressive behaviour in the home (often referred to as child to parent violence or abuse CAPVA) professionals are seeking information and skills to offer support and advice to those impacted.
Whether you see this daily in your work or are aware of some families on the edge of your services, these behaviours can put a significant strain on the relationships between family members. Knowing what to say and how to respond to families can bring significant changes and help families engage with services. We practice a whole-family approach grounded in evidence-based frameworks, including Attachment Theory, Neuroscience, Pro-Social Modelling, and Solution-Focused methods.
Attachment:
Secure attachment between a parent and child are crucial for child development, supporting emotional regulation, social skills and cognitive growth. This leads to better mental health and stronger relationships.
Neuroscience:
Understanding brain development helps us consider how our experiences shape our neural connections influencing behaviour and emotional wellbeing ultimately impacting our long term outcomes.
Pro-Social Modelling:
This approach emphasises the strengths within families and empowers them to identify and implement solutions. Helping lead to improved outcomes and a more positive collaborative relationship between the parent and child.
Solution-Focused practice:
Parents and carers are one of our child’s most important role models. By watching how their parent behaves a child will learn how to react in similar situations. It becomes really important to model the behaviours that you want to see in your child.
Giving professionals a clear, compassionate and practical way to understand CAPVA and support families with confidence.

BESPOKE TRAINING
WHY SHOULD YOU TRAIN WITH US?
Professionals choose to work and train with Capa First Response because our approach is evidence-informed, compassionate, and grounded in years of real frontline experience. We offer a clear, practical framework that helps practitioners understand why behaviour happens, not just how it presents, giving them the tools to respond with confidence, clarity and empathy.
Our training goes beyond traditional behavioural courses; it is relational, person-centred, rooted in Attachment, Neuroscience, Pro-Social Modelling and Solution-Focused practice, and shaped by the lived experiences of thousands of families.
Practitioners tell us our sessions feel refreshing, real, and immediately useful in day-to-day work. As one professional shared:
“I found the training really insightful and useful. It was so person-centred and a refreshing change from much of the behaviour-parenting type courses that are prolific now. Please pass on my thanks to the team.”
Our model strengthens professional confidence, improves engagement with families, supports safer practice, and helps services create earlier, more effective interventions. This is why organisations across the UK from Early Help, Family Hubs and Social Care to Education, Health and VAWG teams choose Capa as their trusted specialist training and support partner.
“Wow!This was very useful training and I really enjoyed it. Jam-packed with knowledge, advice and tools.
Brilliant”
“Gave me the confidence to work in a complex area. A lot of the resources are things that I use… but pulled together in a way that helps me to have the confidence to think about and engage with families in these situations.”

Sarah Fisher #CapaCommunityConnections
As an adoptive mum supporting her son through some challenging times, Sarah Fisher learnt about non–violent resistance (NVR) and adapted it to develop a more holistic approach – Connective Parenting NVR. She now shares the approach with families from across the UK and beyond and also trains other professionals working with families in this approach.
Sarah joined us for our latest #CapaCommunityConnections event to share information about NVR and answer questions. We had a great turnout for this online event, but for those who missed it we recorded it so that everyone can benefit from Sarah's advice and knowledge in this area.
